Job Description

Senior Technical Writer 

This company located in Portland, Oregon which is a leading supplier of small, rugged, and modular networking solutions primarily to the DoD is seeking a Senior Technical Writer for a full-time, direct opportunity. The company’s 400 series product line has become a ‘de-facto’ standard for deployed IP communications in the US Army and USMC.  A series of wins over the last 3 years has resulted in significant growth in this business. The selected candidate will produce high-quality documentation that contributes to the overall success of the company products. You will work collaboratively with developers, quality engineers, product managers, and usability experts to make our products easier to use. As an ideal candidate, you have proven experience in a highly technical field, such as software development, computer science, or engineering. You have demonstrated your ability to evaluate and analyze complex product information, and you have a desire to help people understand complex information by creating simple, polished, and engaging content. Work with internal company teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of the company products and the documentation requirements. Produce high-quality documentation that meets applicable standards, and is appropriate for its intended audience, for example: User Manuals/Guides for company hardware products such as company 400-Series solutions. User Manuals/Guides for company integrated solutions, such as their CSfC-solutions. Online help content for company software applications. Technical whitepapers for use on our Web Site, for Conference Submissions, Technical Magazines, etc. Technical sections of proposals such as for RFPs and OTAs. Scripts for technical training videos. Technical content for datasheets, product web pages, etc. Analyze existing and potential content, focusing on consistency, reuse and single-sourcing opportunities. Create and maintain the information architecture. Develop and maintain detailed databases of appropriate reference materials, including research, usability tests, and design specifications. Establish and manage project deliverable scope, milestones, and deadlines. Performance requires physical attendance. Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent preferred and have 5+ years proven working experience in technical writing of software and hardware documentation. Ability to deliver high quality documentation, paying attention to detail. Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and pictures. Excellent written skills in English.

Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, with an eye for prioritization. Firm understanding of the software and hardware development life cycles. Previous software or hardware development experience. Experience using tools such as XML to create documentation. Accuracy and attention to detail is a must. Must be able to self-organize workloads and manage all deadlines. Must live or be able and willing to live in the Portland, Oregon area and work onsite daily.
