Job Description

Position: Sr. Test Reliability Engineer

Location: Lisle, IL

Status: 8 to 12-month contract

A client of ours in the electronics component manufacturing industry is seeking an experienced Sr. Test Reliability Engineer for a contract opportunity. This engineer will plan, schedule, and execute standard and complex test programs. Provides data analysis and failure analysis. Evaluates Molex products based on test results and recommends solutions and improvements. Drives innovation and continuous improvement in Lab operations. 


  • Plans and executes product test programs. 
  • Able to prepare and operate standard and custom test equipment and environmental chambers. 
  • Familiar and efficient with the operation of lab equipment such as microscopes, Instron type force equipment, various electrical parameter measuring devices, mechanical parameter measuring devices, temperature/humidity chambers, vibration equipment, acoustic measurements, and interpretation and application of industry and country standards. 
  • Able to prepare test samples and assemble test boards using hand, wave, and convection re-flow soldering processes.
  • Participates in reviews of upcoming test programs early in the product development process and identifies required specimens, fixtures, test boards, hardware, equipment, and methodology.
  • Requires interfacing and collaborating with product managers, design and development engineers, fixture and PCB designers, and management.
  • Reviews and analyzes test requests. Develops detailed test plans, time estimates, and schedules to meet customer needs.
  • Requires interfacing and collaborating with product managers, design and development engineers, test engineers, fixture and PCB designers, technicians, and management.
  • Coordinates and leads post-project completion reviews of the accuracy, quality, and execution of the project with all associated customers to identify opportunities for, and to drive, continual improvement.
  • Performs product evaluation and performance analysis based on test data. 
  • Utilizing standard departmental procedures, develops and modifies product test plans to maximize use of resources and establish performance parameters and reliability of the products being tested.
  • Prepares detailed test reports.  Includes meaningful problem statements, reporting of detailed and insightful summaries of test data, documenting experimental procedures, describing equipment and specimens in detail, statistical analysis, observations, conclusions, recommendations for improvements, and executive summaries.
  • Conducts standard and advanced failure analysis and provides detailed failure analysis reports. 
  • With assistance, evaluates results and suggests corrective actions including product or process change recommendations.
  • Provides direction and training for other Lab personnel. Develops and documents training sessions, best practices, and test procedures.
  • Conducts training sessions as needed.
  • Understands, supports, contributes to, and promotes the current Total Quality Management (TQM), Six Sigma, International Standards Organization (ISO), Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S), and Market Based Management (MBM) systems by following stated policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.


  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering required, M.S. in Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • 10+ years professional experience in a product testing laboratory environment. 
  • Working knowledge of interpretation and application of test standards and methods.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of Windows/MS Office applications.
  • Knowledge of PC based statistical analysis software.
  • Demonstrated experience with Signal integrity measurements.
  • HALT/HASS Testing Experience
  • Experience operating standard electrical/electronic test equipment.
  • Experience operating environmental/mechanical test equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of failure analysis.
  • Knowledge of contact physics.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.


  • Previous experience in a test laboratory evaluating component and integrated- system level product reliability.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of experimental design.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of statistical analysis techniques.
  • Experience with computer programming and system integration.
  • Vibration testing and fixture analysis.
