Senior Tool Design Engineer NEEDED IN POWAY, CA!!

A leading manufacturer of composite products for the commercial and military aerospace industry. We are seeking a full time Manufacturing Engineer for our team. This individual will play a key role in our leadership team and will work together to organize and coordinate the priorities of the Product / Process Group. The group assures that products are manufactured which meet internal goals while meeting and or exceeding customer quality and delivery expectations. 

will be responsible to design conceptual and production level tooling for projects related to developing new carbon fiber composites products in variety of aerospace applications. 

Essential Functions 
Evaluate, investigate, develop and verify feasibility of tooling concepts 
Analyze and recommend Design for Manufacturability options to the customer 
Design and detail a broad range of tooling from prototyping thru production, including composite lay-up molds, thermoplastic/ thermoset compression and transfer molds, fixtures and gauges using SolidWorks CAD software 
Perform necessary stress and thermal analysis within SolidWorks 
Plan and conduct design reviews with the team 
Create and maintain BOMs, prints and other technical documentation necessary to manufacture and operate tooling 
Incorporate safety, ergonomic, and regulatory requirements in tool designs. 
Follow thru tool try-outs and ensure requirements are met 
Perform statistical analysis of the results as required 
Develop and implement alternative designs to existing tooling to improve functionality in production 
Develop/revise preventive maintenance requirements for the tooling 
Interact with internal team members and outside partners to keep them updated on project status 
Identify and review technological sources of information and make recommendations on potential research projects to tooling for the division/product line
Document program and research findings in memos, monthly reports, and quarterly reports 
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement of tooling processes to reduce production down time, improve efficiency, and reduce quality deviations. 
Interact with marketing, accounting, purchasing, manufacturing, product design and suppliers/customers, conveying information clearly and effectively through formal and informal documents 
Establish and maintain an effective collaboration with external contacts such as local shops, universities, government labs, industry partners, etc. 

Core Competencies 
Proficiency in complex mold design and analysis using SolidWorks. 
Scientific and mathematical analytical skills 
track record of designing and building tooling for Composites, Injection/compression molding and/ or die-casting industry. 
Knowledge of GD&T dimensioning and inspection methods 
Experience in CATIA software will be a plus 
Exceptional organization, time management and multi-tasking skills 
Ability to work in a team environment 
Excellent written and oral communication skills 
Advance computer skills. 

Required Education and Experience 

The position requires a Bachelor of Science degree with 5-7 years or an AS degree with 10 + years of relevant experience in tooling design. 

Must understand and develop designs conforming to AS and ISO guidelines.
