Volt is seeking a Simulation Engineer to work onsite at our client’s facility in Mossville, IL.  This is a contingent position expected to last 2 years.  As part of the Virtual Product Development team, you will perform simulation work on a variety of components and system levels for machine and powertrain structures.

In addition, you will:

  • Develop and perform multiphysics simulation of the electrification process for evaluating electromagnetic, piezoelectric, thermal and mechanical behavior on alternators/generators, motors, sensors, antennas, PCBs, etc.
  • Define, collect and verify data signals from simulations, physical tests or field measurements and perform data analysis for structural health monitoring
  • Build FEA structural modeling and perform static and/or dynamic analysis on machine and powertrain components/systems
  • Perform physics-based analysis of results, and provide appropriate recommendations to design teams
  • Write detailed technical reports and publish
  • Take proactive efforts in correlating the models to physical tests
  • Collaborate with test engineers and design engineers to provide professional recommendations for accomplishing NPI/CPI/NTI projects on time

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Master’s or PhD in Mechanical, Structural or Electrical Engineering
  • Industrial experience
  • Experience with FEA software, including the ANSYS package (Workbench and Maxwell), ABAQUS, and HyperWorks
  • Fundamental knowledge of stress/strain simulation through static and dynamic analysis
  • Basic understanding of generator controls and limitations
  • Self-starter who is motivated towards continuous improvement
  • Ability to travel, up to 25%

A strong candidate will also have:

  • Experience with the design of generators/motors
  • Experience with Caterpillar generator sets
  • Experience with control design for generators paralleling to each other and with one or more utilities
