Job Description

If you’re an IT professional with a background in engineering new software, programming in PowerShell, configuring virtual and physical workstations in Windows, and have experience with enterprise Citrix solutions for desktop and application deployments, then you may be the candidate we are looking for!

Our client, global leader in the integration and application of information technology, engineering, and science, has an opening for a Software & Systems Design Engineer to support the Enterprise Standard Architecture IV (ESA IV) program.  The ESA IV is an IT Services program supporting several customers within the Department of Justice.  The program provides a range of enterprise wide Information Technology (IT) services including desktop, infrastructure, platform, and application (Windows) services.  The Software & Systems Design Engineer will serve on a team of 8 to 10 people and be responsible for managing the functionality and efficiency of virtual enterprise workstations and virtual host platforms.  The successful candidate will be a self-starter and team player that will work for eighteen months (18) months in Washington, DC from 8am to 5pm.  Please note that full time conversion IS possible for this role and that the ideal candidate will be able to work flexible hours.


  • Conducting systems analysis and development to keep systems current with changing technologies, security needs, and user functional requirements.
  • Engineering, designing, and refining desktop/mobility solutions.
  • Engineering new software, troubleshooting, performing VDI and applications migrations.
  • Training users on new and enhanced solutions, as required.
  • Programming in an administrative language, including PowerShell, CLI, as needed.
  • Interacting with the engineering management team and senior customer personnel on matters requiring coordination across organizational lines.

Required KSAOs

  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust access
  • A Bachelor's degree and 8 years relevant work experience.  Additional years of experience in lieu of degree is acceptable.
  • Experience with designing, deploying, managing, and configuring virtual and physical workstation environments using Windows 7 and 10 with Microsoft SCM products.
  • Experience with virtualization solutions using ESX 5.5 and Hyper-V
  • Experience with enterprise desktop deployments and management, including application package development and enterprise system refreshes.
  • Experience with enterprise Citrix solutions for desktop and application deployments
  • Knowledge of Windows desktop including 7 and 10 with Server, 2012, 2012R2, and 2016 operating systems, Active Directory, VMWare virtualization solutions, and Citrix capabilities.
  • Experience with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred KSAOs

  • Experience with analyzing and enhancing operational procedures and new innovative solutions to address current and emerging IT challenges.
  • Knowledge of ITIL change management and problem management best practices
  • Citrix Certified Professional – Virtualization (CCP-V)
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert
  • Cloud Foundry
  • OpenShift
  • RedHat
  • Application migration to Cloud
  • Containerization (i.e. Docker)

This is an estimated EIGHTEEN (18) MONTH temporary position with the POSSIBILITY OF FULL TIME CONVERSION in WASHINGTON, DC that is offered through Volt Workforce Solutions.  Relocation assistance is NOT available for this position.  Position is subject to U.S. Government Contractor hiring eligibility requirements.  No third-party vendors.  Pay is commensurate with experience.
