Sr. Benefits Specialist- HR

Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree, strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Minimum of 5 years hands on experience administering employee benefits with active involvement in plan design
  • Experience with Request for Proposal (RFP) process and benefits implementation
  • Strong attention to detail, PC and organizational skills
  • Project Management experience a plus
  • Financial acumen, comfortable working with data
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, able to present a business case with data
  • Comfortable communicating with all levels of organization from executive to production
  • Conflict resolution experience, ability to discern critical concerns and develop shared understanding

Our client is seeking a highly motivated individual for the distribution facility team.  The person in this role will help develop and evolve our North America benefits strategy related to Health and Welfare, Insurances, Pension and other related savings instruments and ancillary benefits.  If selected, you would be a critical part of our team responsible to drive implementation of the plan design including price negotiations, vendor selection, open enrollment, associate communications and issue resolution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participates in an annual review of our clients North American benefits strategy, primarily with a US and Canada focus and works on plan design updates and cost negotiations with various US and Canadian vendors
  • Develops and recommends associate cost share model on an annual basis; aligns with Total Rewards longer term strategy and direction
  • Work as lead to develop associate communications for open enrollment, explaining annual changes and total value of benefit package
  • Writes and reviews Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs) for all plans, ensuring ERISA compliance
  • Works as main point of contact for all associate issues concerning various plans, works collaboratively with broader HR team to communicate with associates through the escalation process, manages appeal process on behalf of company as needed
  • Manages and continuously improves data flow between the HR information system, call center and multiple vendors, works to eliminate waste and improve timely and accurate data management
  • Ensures all ERISA, IRS and other agency tax requirements are met; works with finance to ensure all funds and fund transfers occur seamlessly, ensures timely payment of all vendor invoices
  • Delivers all HRM training in the area of Health & Welfare benefits, and retirement plans; monitors changes in legal environment and trends in benefits design to ensure continuous compliance
  • Administratively supports relocation program
  • Tracks benefit participation, develops and maintains tracking tools to monitor budget, relocation spending, forfeiture balances, tuition and relocation reimbursements
  • Develops and communicates leave programs, maintains leave policies, including STD, LTD and Family Medical Leave, actively monitors leave vendor performance
  • Responsible for all HIPAA training and protection of private associate data
