Permanent opportunity for a Sr. Payroll Processor in Los Angeles, CA area. Join an exciting team, you will have great benefits and excellent salary.  The ideal candidate will perform duties necessary for the accurate calculation of wages, maintenance of records and distribution of payroll reports and withheld monies. Acts as a resource to Payroll team.  Assists with overseeing the data integrity and completeness of the payroll system. 

Examples of Duties:

  • Acts as a subject matter expert and/or resource to others in payroll processing.
  • Analyzes and responds to complex matters of payroll policies and procedures.
  • Researches and interprets technical payroll information in response to inquiries.
  • Advises about rules and procedures regarding payroll functions.
  • Authorizes/ enters payroll transactions & data; completes forms to adjust wages /account funds or to correct/balance a special situation.
  • Researches, analyzes, and resolves difficult or advanced technical problems.
  • Recommends new procedures related to payroll operations; assists coordinate approved changes within payroll processing functions; updates affected policy/procedure manuals.
  • Compiles payroll reports for both internal and external purpose; submits to supervisor for review.
  • Acts as liaison with management, staff, and facilities in answering questions, providing alternatives, and facilitating decision-making.
  • Initiates payroll processing quality assurance reviews identifies training issues and/or problem prone processes to ensure optimal efficiency and error-free operations.
  • Reviews payroll batches prior to submission for accuracy.
  • Interfaces with benefits department to ensure proper deduction of benefits from payroll
  • Understands and process bonus checks, including related special calculations such as bonus true up.
  • Reviews data input of Payroll team to ensure accuracy. 
  • Ability to process and manipulate large spreadsheets of data, including exporting and importing data from payroll system and putting them into reports other departments can utilize.
  • Prepares various reports for management from payroll system, including manipulation of exported data for presentation purposes. 
  • Participates in testing of payroll system or process changes and enhancements.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of CA payroll principles, practices & regulations
  • Experience in processing large payrolls
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal payroll and related tax regulations, legislation and guidelines including, but not limited to writs of garnishment, child support, levies, and subpoenas.
  • Skill in evaluating and analyzing technical payroll activities. 
  • Experience in troubleshooting system related issues and corrective action(s).
  • Ability to quickly research, reconcile and resolve payroll discrepancies.
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments and meet deadlines.
  • High level of skill in preparing detailed reports, performing detailed computations with accuracy.
  • Excellent Math, Communication and Computer Skills needed
  • Strong abilities with using Microsoft Excel including formulas, custom report creation, V look ups etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

Five years of payroll processing experience, OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.  APA certified a plus.
