Volt is working with an Aerospace Industry Leader. We have an open role for an Electrical Engineer / Consultant

Assignment Length 12 - 15 months

What You’ll Do

  • Provide technical leadership in the area of EMI/EMC at space segment level for remote sensing applications during all phases of a program life-cycle from concept development through on-orbit commissioning.
  • Apply Subject Matter Expertise in the area of EMI/EMC to space based mission requirements definition, space segment hardware trade off decisions, risk assessment, system and subsystem hardware design, modeling and simulation, analysis, and space segment requirements verification.
  • At the space segment level, provide expert EMI/EMC design and analysis skills to define the electronics architecture for space segment and subsystem level hardware.  This includes: technology assessments, space segment requirements, analysis, allocation, and flow-down to payload and spacecraft subsystems, system integration and test support, as well as verification of compliance to requirements.
  • Generate electrical system concepts and trade studies for future space based missions and systems.
  • Document and present analysis, findings, and design information to current and potential future customers.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the SBU/SSU and the Company.  Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

What You’ll Need

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 16 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Active TS/SCI required.
  • Proven technical leader and subject matter expert in developing EMC/EMI requirements and design for electronics systems for classified programs. 
  • Expertise in the physics of EMI/EMC and system interactions at the physical layer.
  • Knowledgeable of space environmental factors (radiation, Total Ionizing Dose, etc.) and how they interact with EMC/EMI concerns.
  • Strong system level development experience (15 or more years) defining requirements, verification and validation methodologies, buying off requirements to deliver hardware to the next level of integration, etc. with expertise in the area of EMI/EMC.
  • Expert system level analytical skills including FMECA, WCA, reliability and risk mitigation.
  • Detailed knowledge of MIL-STD-461/462/464/1541, SMC-S-008/016 and related standards requirements and testing is required.
  • Technical team leadership experience.
  • Knowledgeable in FPGA-based electronics architecture and the impact of EMI on such architectures
  • In depth experience with redundant fault tolerant avionics, self-diagnostic and architecture/hardware design including trade-offs and characteristics and impact of EMI on such systems.
  • Familiarity with launch vehicle interface avionics.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, strong presentation skills and the ability to lead group discussions.
