Job Description

Local Food Manufacturer located in the heart of Sonoma County is looking for a strong Strategic and Tactical Buyer to join their growing team!  If you are up for a new challenge, let's connect! 

Summary:

You perform both strategic and tactical purchasing activities.  You will be responsible for developing SOP’s for executing tactical job duties, while performing strategic responsibilities in conjunction with the Supply Chain Director.  

Essential Duties:

  • Analyze supply/demand requirements, processes purchase requisitions, purchase change orders and requests for quotes to suppliers to meet operational demands
  • Responsible for procurement business system data input and integrity
  • Participates in maximizing the changes, part parameters; quote table maintenance, supplier database information, error report analysis, and part number/supplier code information
  • Performs cost analysis and volume planning for major commodities
  • Monitors the cost, schedule and scope of assigned contracts to negotiate highest quality at best value.
  • Develops new supply sources where vendors and suppliers are no longer competitive
  • May recommend cost saving proposals including alternative sourcing
  • Interacts closely with suppliers and QA to resolve quality issues
  • Maintain an effective supplier performance program to meet FDA requirements
  • Develop strategic alliances with suppliers delivery/receiving issues
  • Conduct negotiations to obtain best price, delivery, quality, specifications and freight terms.
  • Generate most suitable purchasing arrangement (e.g. contracts, blanket orders, vendor stocking programs).
  • Implement Lean principles both internally and at the supplier to reduce waste and overall cost.
  • Schedule, plan and conduct supplier visits/evaluations to determine suitability and analyze supplier performance. Lead meetings with supplier management to discuss and develop effective relationships.
  • Develop and implement supplier certification/performance measurement programs in partnership with Supplier Quality Organization and in accordance with FDA regulations and client guidelines. Work with existing suppliers to improve performance or identify alternate suppliers to maintain supplier base.
  • Develop plans for validation of alternate supplier's items. Develop and document operating policies and guidelines for control of purchasing activities and comply with GMP regulations.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to teamwork and Quality Business System Requirements. Perform other related tasks as required
  • Provide information, reports, and performs other duties as required

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION REQUIRED

Bachelor's in business or related field YEARS OF EXPERIENCE 5+ years of experience in a professional buying position, quality or operations.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

Working knowledge of GMP's.  Experience in buying, supplier relations, material planning and inventory management. Familiarity with product specifications and incoming inspection procedures. Familiarity with writing policies and procedures. Project Management skills PC skills, word processing, spreadsheets, and etc.

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to operate independently requiring limited supervision and exercise proper judgment. Lead Auditor MBA CPM Certification, experience and training in Lean Manufacturing principles. Experience in developing quality systems. Experience as a Lead Auditor. Strong knowledge of ISO and FDA regulations. Skilled in statistical analysis and detail oriented activities. Ability to evaluate data inputs and create meaningful analysis Strong organizational skills, detail oriented. Effective verbal and written communication, analytical and interpersonal skills. Strong influencing and negotiating skills. Ability to interface well with cross-functional teammates. Commitment to achieve Quality Business System Requirements.  Experience with Microsoft Dynamics ERP or similar Enterprise Resource Planning software.  Beginner to intermediate experience with Microsoft Excel.
