Job Description

Do you have a desire to be part of a dynamic team, that is responsible for the day to day operation of a fast moving and energetic Engineering PCA Prototyping Lab.  Do you have the ability to perform DFM reviews prior to releasing products to factories for volume production. Do you have a desire to be responsible for managing and motivating a team to accomplish the strategies and objectives of the prototyping lab, as well as scheduling day to day operations, and part procurement.  Then this job is for you.

Position Overview

Responsible for the day to day operation of a PCA Prototyping Lab, the processing of build requests and supervising a team of lab technicians.  Performing DFM prior to releasing products to factories for production. Responsible for managing and motivating a team to accomplish the strategies and objectives of the prototyping lab, as well as scheduling day to day operations, and part procurement.  Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and schedules.

This prototype labs primary customers are the engineering teams; however, this position also has direct contact with many corporate departments. It is required to have communication with all levels of management.

Must, at all times, represent the company in a professional manner.

Essential Functions

  1. Provides overall prototyping leadership, directly supervising up to 4 employees and building a highly talented and effective prototype lab, including training of new technicians, and process improvements.
  2. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws
  3. Supervises assembly processes in accordance with IPC standards.
  4. Responsible for directing both hand builds, and machine building of prototypes to meet all schedules.
  5. Evaluates completed build request, and reports results with a focus on DFM.
  6. Maintains Engineering parts inventory, Including Procurement, Kitting for both hand and machine builds, and inventory control system.
  7. Oversee the proper calibration and maintenance all assembly equipment.
  8. Distribute work among the department based on priority, work load and individual skills
  9. Analyze alternate solutions and recommending best options
  10. Prepare accurate, up-to-date and concise oral and written reports and reviews on departmental progress and direction
  11. May be called upon to participate in cross functional activities outside of normal scope of job responsibilities
  12. Keep management abreast of potential problems within the Prototype Lab
  13. Ensures that all company safety guidelines are followed at all times.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or other related field preferred

Experience

  • 2+ Years working in SMT Prototype Lab

Skills

  • Familiarity with SMT line, including set up, running, and process improvements.
  • Ability to hand solder and rework PCA assemblies to IPC standards.
  • Capable to read and understand various types of Engineering drawings including but not limited to Schematics, Printed Circuit Assembly, and Mechanical Drawings.
  • Must also have a strong understanding of industry best practices for, engineering, manufacturing, and quality.
  • Must be capable of translating business issues into engineering development and implementation
  • Must have good interpersonal relationship skills
  • Capable of leading and motivating a group of people to accomplish the objectives set-up for their function
  • Must act as both as a contributor and leader within the engineering function
  • Minimum of working knowledge of instrumentation and wiring systems

Travel

  • Limited travel, 10%, will be required
  • Possible foreign travel
