POSITION SUMMARY:  Provides general leadership and work direction for all work performed in the Bottling Department.  Assists with the enforcement of safety regulations and helps to ensure product quality.  Works with the Bottling Supervisor to coordinate bottling resources to meet schedule demands.  Delegates work assignments as necessary.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Performs sanitation procedures for both start-up and shut down functions.  Performs membrane integrity testing procedures and train others to perform the procedures as required.
  • Follows standard operating procedures in the performance of all bottling activities to ensure maximum productivity and wine quality objectives are achieved.
  • Provides assistance with bottling line changeovers, preventive maintenance and filler sanitation procedures.
  • Assists the Supervisor with the allocation of personnel and equipment resources.
  • Able to assist with Bottling Supervisor duties in his/her absence.
  • Communication/Leadership:  Directs work performed to ensure proper procedures are followed, including adherence to safety regulations.  Assists in the development of improved procedures and techniques. Helps train, evaluate and retrain new team members.  Assists with communication involving cellar, QA and maintenance to resolve quality, efficiency and safety issues.
  • Acts as the bottling team’s training coordinator, orienting new team members and directing their training activities.  Documents training progress and works with the Bottling Supervisor to address any issues.
  • Forklift operation: Performs all forklift and pallet jack related responsibilities including generation and attachment of pallet tags, loading/unloading of trucks and preparation of bills of lading.
  • Adheres to all safety policies and procedures, including but not limited to timely and accurate reporting of all work-related injuries and illnesses to the supervisor, promoting safety awareness to co-workers, advising the supervisor of any unsafe acts and conditions and wearing required personal protective equipment.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in all phases of bottling operations or equivalent experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively with good skills in reading, writing and basic math.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and understand, follow and provide direction  to employees in all bottling line procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist in the diagnosis and adjustment of bottling equipment and processes.
  • Ability to enforce safety regulations
  • Current forklift certification and ability to operate a forklift and pallet jack.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
  • Bilingual preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The bottling line presents a challenging environment and may present exposure to hazardous conditions. Hearing and eye protection equipment is required at all times within the bottling areas. Alertness and the ability to quickly respond to equipment malfunctions are required. Walking up and down stairs and ladders, bending, excessive standing and walking are required. 

Minimum - Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Irregular shifts, including swing, graveyard, and long hours may be required. Work hours may be affected by bottling equipment failures.
