Job Description

The Mid-Level System Administrator position we have open is a part of the Project IT team.   The Project IT team spends 50% of time with integration and 50% time in support.  We integrate small environments (one to three racks) for our product which is then sold and shipped to the customer.  Environments typically include between 5 and 30 servers and fiber attached storage.  The more complex environments will also sometimes include fiber switches, load balancing, and clustering among other more complex technologies.  Once the environment is finished and sent, the helpdesk department primarily handles support.  The Project IT team acts as escalated support for system administration issues that the helpdesk team needs assistance with.

This position will report to System Integration Manager.

This position will take leadership of integrating projects from beginning to end and be able to work with minimal to medium leadership.  This position will also be the first line of response for all Linux and Unix related questions and escalate and/or work with the senior Linux/Unix admin as needed. 



  • Provide proposal and planning teams with technical guidance and advice including but not limited to answering technical questions, answering security questions, sanity check on environment compatibility, and assistance with technical presentations
  • Work with vendors to design architectures and procure equipment
  • Integrate all equipment per specifications of technical lead teams (unbox, rack, patch, install, support)
  • Prepare racks for shipment (capture and document all configs, physically move equipment to warehouse)
  • Remote support of worldwide customer base
  • Able to work after hours and on weekends for both planned and unplanned maintenance and unsuspected and time sensitive integration projects
  • Cross-train with other members on the team (junior, mid, and senior level administrators)



Must be able to install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain at a mid level:

  • Various flavors of Linux OS (e.g. Redhat, Oracle, SLES)
  • Various internet services and related open source (e.g. SMTP, FTP, SFTP, SSH, HTTP, SMB)
  • Server hardware (IBM, HP, Dell)

Must be able to install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain at a junior to mid level:

  • Various flavors of Unix OS (e.g. AIX)
  • Various flavors of Windows OS (e.g. Win 2008, Win 2012, Win7)
  • Hypervisors and Virtualization (e.g. VMware/ESXi)
  • SAN (fiber and iscsi) (e.g. IBM, HP, EMC, Hitachi)
  • Fiber switches (e.g. Brocade, Cisco)
  • Load Balancers (e.g. F5, Kemp)



  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or similar
  • About 5+ years of System Administration experiences in Unix-like environment



  • OS Failover technology (e.g. linux cluster, unix cluster, windows cluster)
  • Storage Failover technology (e.g. SAN replication)
  • Automation (e.g. chef, puppet)
