Job Description

Our Client is currently hiring for a System Safety Engineer in Goleta, CA

The selected candidate will provide System Safety engineering support as part of the Whole Life Engineering (WLE) Center. The WLE Team is made up of several disciplines that influence Self-Protect System product designs early in their life cycle and provide sustainment support for fielded products with the ultimate goal of ensuring effective operation, reliability, maintainability, supportability, system safety (RMSS) and economical ownership by the company and the customer/end user. 

The System Safety Engineer will represent the WLE Department as an RMSS Subject Matter Expert (SME). Responsibilities will include identifying key RMSS issues and addressing them with optimal technical solutions, managing reliability program(s) including; monitoring program technical execution, interfacing with customers, program offices, subcontractors, and vendors. 

Responsibilities include: 
• Primary WLE point of contact for RMSS tasks as a key member of Systems Engineering design and development teams 
• Integrating System Safety into product designs 
• Performing Reliability and Failure Root Cause analyses 
• Managing FRACAS database of delivered units to include failure history, operational usage, and trends 
• Generating Reliability, Maintainability, Testability, and System Safety work products/CDRLs/SDRLs 
• Coordination of the daily activities of Operations, Supply Chain, and Engineering in effecting repairs 
• Coordination/communication with all engineering disciplines 

Required Skills: 
• 8+ years of related work experience 
• Experience developing and executing a system safety program in accordance with MIL-STD-882 
• Experience guiding a safety program from proposal development to successful completion 
• Experience performing Fault Tree Analyses 
• Experience developing and executing a hazard tracking system 
• Experience performing hardware and software system safety analyses 
• Knowledge of and familiarity with the tasks and work products associated with related Whole Life Engineering disciplines (Reliability, Maintainability/Testability, Human System Integration, Supportability) 
• Ability to communicate effectively with program management and functional leads with limited oversight from functional management 

Desired Skills 
• Experience performing Fault Tree Analyses using FaultTree+ or a similar tool 
• Familiarity with and apply reliability tools, e.g. Windchill Quality Solutions, Reliasoft, etc. 
• Familiarity with Testability requirements and/or BIT architecture 
• Experience developing engineering proposals for WLE content 
• Cost Account Manager (CAM) & Earned Value reporting experience 

Required Education: (This is the minimum level of education or degree and major required for the position.) 
• B.S. Degree in Engineering, Science, or related technical field 

Desired Education: (This is the minimum level of education or degree and major required for the position.) 
• M.S./ Ph.D. Degree in Engineering, Science, or related technical field
