Volt is looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer

Location: Durham, NC

As part of Bronto’s System Engineering Team, the Senior DevOps Engineer will play a key technical and leadership role by ensuring uptime and scalability of the Bronto systems.

We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to work on the Bronto System Engineering Team. This role will require working technical expertise in Linux system administration, performance tuning, hardware as a service, automation development, infrastructure planning, data center best practices and driving maintenance and scale activities with the Linux based infrastructure running the Bronto SaaS platform. This role will be a Leading expert contributor, own and drive projects, provide daily guidance/direction/mentoring and contribute as a technical team member. As a DevOps Engineer, you will solve interesting technical challenges by defining, designing deploying and troubleshooting key Bronto services, platforms, and infrastructure, always thinking about reliability, scalability, resilience, security, and performance. Additionally, the Senior DevOps Engineer will have daily oversight to key aspects of the System Administration Team and will provide daily guidance, foster growth through mentoring, provide strategic direction and be a key decision maker.

Major Duties:
• Active hands-on participant on the System Administration team to build, deploy, and maintain the physical and virtual infrastructure underlying our SaaS offering
• Work collaboratively with our partners to understand their needs, plan and prepare for growth, develop solutions, create and foster stable environments and manage life-cycle standards.
• Provide leadership and expertise that fosters, strategic guidance, mentorship, collaboration and career growth amongst other System Administrators
• Troubleshoot issues, coordinate maintenance efforts, evaluate new technologies, and continually iterate and improve on our existing infrastructure
• Review the current architectural landscape and make appropriate recommendations
• Produce and maintain detailed documentation and required updates as dictated by business needs and to the required team standards
• Partner with key technical groups to ensure security standards are maintained, vulnerabilities are mitigated, and systems are running compliant to Oracle policy
• Drive and own projects, as directed, to support and execute on team and company goals.
• Work in a very fast paced and challenging environment that is constantly changing to meet Bronto’s business demands and need for scale
• Participation in On-Call rotation is required
• Participation in local physical data center rotation is required
• Participation in infrequent off-hours maintenance is required
Required Skills and Experience:
• Expert level skills in Linux administration, troubleshooting, and tuning a must
• Previous personnel leadership (Team Lead, etc.) experience
• Must possess a strong “team focus” with proven collaboration skills that foster an environment of learning and working together to get the job done
• In-depth understanding of virtualization, scalability, and security
• Strong knowledge of Xen based virtualization, containers, ZFS administration, and cloud architecture is a plus
• Experience configuring and troubleshooting LDAP, DNS, NFS, iSCSI, and other core Linux services required
• Self-motivated and possess well developed critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills
• Shell scripting and some familiarity with Ruby or Python required
• Work experience at a cloud service provider and intimate knowledge of the complexities of administering and managing a cloud environment highly desirable (AWS/OCI/Azure)
• Experience with Puppet and Git a plus
• 8+ years in Linux System Administration role in a medium to large network distributed and computing environment
• 10+ years in Information Technology
• Previous Leadership experience is a plus
• BS in Computer Science or equivalent
• Red Hat and Oracle certification is a plus
