Job Description

Volt is seeking an experienced Linux systems administrator to join the team with the primary role of designing, implementing, and managing networks for a federal law enforcement agency. The selected candidate will be given an opportunity to exercise and expand his or her skills in an enterprise environment filled with unique challenges. A passion for information technology, problem-solving, and a desire to continuously learn are indicators of the success of this role. Strong experience with web application hosting technologies, virtualization, and scripting experience are strongly desired. This position will be performed at the customer site in Fairfax, Virginia.  Some of the responsibilities associated with this position includes:

  • Perform Operations and Maintenance on Red Hat Linux (future) and HP-UX (current) operating system and its associated software
  • Migrate systems off of HP-UX onto Red Hat Linux
  • Engineer and administer Red Hat Linux in support of Oracle databases

Education and Experience:

BS in Computer Science or related field, and a minimum of 12 years' relevant experience, or Masters with 10 years' relevant experience. Additional years of experience, and/or relevant certifications will be considered in lieu of degree.

This position requires a security clearance issued by the US government.

Required Skills:

• Provisioning, management, and orchestration with automation tools such as Puppet.

• Web technologies and services including LAMP, Java technologies such as and Tomcat, and load balancers.

• Familiarity with RDBM systems such as Oracle (primary), SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MySQL.

• Authentication and authorization technologies including LDAP, SAML, SSSD and Kerberos

• Scripting repetitive tasks using open source programming languages such as shell script and Python.

• Virtualization technologies including VMware, vSphere, and Citrix Xenserver

• Considerable experience developing tools and processes that help provide a robust and reliable information technology service portfolio.

• Understanding of Enterprise standard methodologies including Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) and Enterprise Architecture (EA) as well as governance frameworks such as ITIL

• Understanding of email transport including SMTP, mail transfer agents, and mail security.

• Experience with storage technologies including SAN and NAS.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work on project teams, with stakeholders, and across departments.

• Capable of working with minimal guidance / oversight.

Desired Skills:

 • Highly desired is any prior experience working with Cross Domain Solution products such as ForcePoint’s Trusted Gateway System

• Experience working with multiple Linux distributions is desired

• Experience with cloud services is desired.

• Familiarity with Microsoft technologies.

• Container technologies such as Docker is desired.

• Being an agent for change, and assisting with developing organizational processes.
