Position Title:  System Engineer – All Digital/Linear Video

Location: Broomfield, CO (Denver area)

Status: 12-26-month contract with potential for conversion to direct hire

Travel Requirements:  Up to 100%

Job Description:

Our client provides world-class technical services around the world for all segments of the Telecommunication and Broadband industries. This includes satellite and UHF/VHF/HF technologies as well as professional services such as field installation and testing, erecting, and commissioning earth stations, broadband headends, wireless, radio, and radar networks, to installation of towers, plant cabling, foundations, and shelters.

The System Engineer will be working on the client video operations CISCO/EC & ARRIS/DAC controllers as well as Mystro, SARA, Passport CPE back office systems.  Both CISCO & ARRIS SDV & VOD systems.  The work will be associated with planning, prep, build, test, fix as applicable to pre-launch which includes supporting maintenance windows for hub migrations.  The work consists of channel mux changes, source definition changes, source multi-cast creation & changes, session building, service changes, QPSK add/drops for testing.  EIA frequency changes & channel map changes.  The work will be day time prep & third shift maintenance window work. 

Additional Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the configuration and integration of equipment into new and existing video headends including receivers, encoders, transcoders, multiplexers, Edge QAMS, Conditional Access System(s), network controllers, switched digital video system
  • Responsible for troubleshooting issues as related to the Conditional Access System
  • Responsible for troubleshooting issues as related to the video distribution networks including RF
  • Configuration of equipment in a multicast environment
  • Develop and contribute to internal documentation (Test Procedures, MOPs, Solution Descriptions)

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience within digital CATV environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent work experience
  • Very strong customer interaction and interpersonal skills
  • Very strong knowledge of IP networking and Internet technologies (TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, HTTP, NTP)
  • Very strong knowledge of DAC, APEX, CAP, DNCS, EC, transcoders, encoders, muxing equipment
  • Proven ability to configure and troubleshoot video headend equipment
  • Strong skills in Linux command line
  • Knowledge of Set Top Box management, guide, VOD Systems
  • Solid understanding of RF Networks (Combining, Taps, Padding, Amplifiers, Nodes)
  • Familiarity with fiber networks and HFC plant operations
  • Familiarity with MPEG2/4 encapsulation
  • Ability/willingness to travel
  • Ability/willingness to learn new equipment and technologies extremely quickly
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

Desired Skills/Experience:

  • Experience in a video headend as an engineer directly responsible for video distribution
  • ARRIS DAC6000 – Digital Addressable Controller operations and administration
  • CISCO DNCS/EC
  • Harmonic video equipment
  • Digital Headend operation
