VOLT’s client is looking for a Sr. Systems Engineer (VMware SME)

This is open ended Contract position in Spokane, WA and offered through Volt Workforce Solutions. We are among the largest IT staffing companies in the US for contract/temporary and direct hire placements and support many of the top-rated IT companies in the Pacific Northwest.


Are you a Systems Engineer with extensive enterprise-level VMWare? We are looking for a hands-on Engineer to join our client’s growing and impactful team. You will be responsible for implementing and managing customer-facing infrastructure in a dynamic, high-performance enterprise sized environment.

In this role, you will work collaboratively with architects, infrastructure engineers, applications teams and many others in helping to deploy technology solutions across the enterprise.

Technical Requirements:

  • Expert hands on administration experience with VMware (ESX, ESXi/vSphere, vCenter, vMotion, DRS) and other virtualization technologies and concepts
  • Expert experience designing, deploying, supporting, and trouble-shooting VMware in large enterprise environment
  • Experience with capacity planning and sizing large global VMware environments
  • Microsoft Windows Server Linux Server environments
  • Experience configuring and deploying various server platforms
  • Strong experience with design, development, implementation, and maintenance of large-scale systems, preferably across multiple hardware and software platforms
  • Exchange Server (or enterprise mail systems)
  • Active Directory, Group Policy
  • Solid understanding of essential TCP/IP protocols: TCP, UDP, ICMP, SMTP, SNMP, LDAP, DNS, NTP, and understanding of wider set protocols.

Nice to have experience:

  • Experience integrating cloud services with ADFS or SAML (Implement single-sign-on and account provisioning for disparate systems) 
  • Experience with resource utilization in multi-tenant cloud environment
  • Experience designing and integrating Office 365 in the cloud
  • Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM 2012 R2)
  • Microsoft Desktop Operating Systems Experience with Cloud services (Azure or AWS) is a plus
  • Experience Integrating Active Directory with Cloud services via PowerShell or SAML (Implement single-sign-on and account provisioning for disparate systems)
  • Experience with LAN and WAN technology and firewalls (Cisco/McAfee)
  • Experience with Nutanix (Data Center / Hybrid Cloud Solution)
  • Experience with SAN – specifically NetApp

Soft skill requirements:

  • This role will work within a highly matrixed environment so the ability to communicate at all levels is vitally important to the success of this position.
  • Able to work well across Infrastructure teams, System Teams, and IT PMO as work is project driven in nature.
  • Take passion in delivering high quality solutions and service to a large enterprise environment that will positively impact over 500,000 regular users of the environment a day.
