Job Description

Volt is currently seeking a highly qualified Technical Writer to join one of our clients in Orlando, FL. Our client offers exciting opportunities as a premier technology integrator in the technical, engineering, intelligence, and enterprise information technology markets.


  • Prepares, writes, and edits IT documentation and reports including graphic presentation of information, which incorporates feedback from the specialists, analysts, programmers, and operations personnel.
  • Interprets technical documentation standards and regulates quality documentation according to standards.
  • Documentation is for both technical and non-technical personnel audiences.
  • Edits and reviews documents for appropriate grammar, spelling, punctuation, formatting and makes corrections/recommendations for correction.
  • Edits, proofreads and provides writing support on documents and sections prepared by leads to create a document's 'single voice' consistency for communications to the customer.
  • Checks drafts for format, clarity and overall cohesiveness.
  • Ensures documents meet editorial and government specifications; and adheres to standards for quality, graphics, coverage, format and style.
  • Interfaces with project teams and other groups in coordinating/preparing documentation, reviewing rough drafts, making suggestions, and finalizing documentation.
  • Provides general support in documenting technical information and other duties in a timely manner in support of Program/Project Managers, Task Leads or staff.
  • Performs routine and non-routine tasks including special projects.
  • Interacts with other staff to gather, supply, and/or coordinate information.

Typical assignments would include (but not limited to) supporting ITO System Managers with development or update of system documents such as System Security Plans (SSPs).

Required Skills:

  • Applicants must have experience or familiarity with NIST Special Publications (see examples at: and at least one year or more experience developing System Security Plans (SSP).
  • Three (3) years of technical writing and documentation experience is required.
  • A minimum of one (1) year must be in IT technical documentation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, collaboration skills to include obtaining information from contributors within short periods of time.
  • Must have substantial knowledge of the capabilities of computer systems and demonstrate good communication skills and the ability to juggle overlapping tasks and priorities, work independently or under general direction only.
  • Three (3) or more years of working experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word.

Desired Skills:

  • A background in developing process flow documents and operating procedures is desirable.
