Job Description

Technical Writer

This is an estimated 12 to 24 month temporary position, in SeaTac, WA and is offered through Volt Workforce Solutions. We are among the largest staffing companies in the US for contingent/temporary and direct hire placements, and support many of the top rated Pacific Northwest companies.

The technical writer will help content development for a manual in engineering. They will help develop training and technical documentation, and build process flows to support a key IT Service Management (ITSM) application. Assist the IT operations performance team with the development and improvement of IT system processes and technical documentation. The manual is within the engineering division, a technical group. There will be significant level of engineering language, dealing with the technical content.

Project Description:

  • Integrate similar manuals (processes and policies) into a single manual system
  • Research, compare like processes and differences
  • Work with SME’s to produce process drafts (Word markups or PDF w/comments)
  • Author final documents in FrameMaker consistent with established content and format requirements
  • Quality check documents for content, format and consistency across manuals system.


  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in technical writing, and a focus on technical content
  • Recent FrameMaker experience (must have)
  • ITSM (System Management) experience is good, but not required
  • Integrate into the group well, strong collaboration skills
  • Flexibility, there will be numerous changes
  • Type of writing: technical content, working with the structure & technical engineering

Authoring Experience:

  • Previous aircraft manuals experience with emphases on process and procedures writing (preferred)
  • FrameMaker experience: Ability to author within pre-established formats and master pages (must have)
  • Acrobat Pro: Date Printed Bookmark (preferred)
  • Microsoft Office: Word, Excel (must have)
  • Microsoft Visio: Create/modify simple flowcharts (preferred)
  • Dreamweaver: Update html pages (preferred)
  • Experience with index markers and cross references (must have)
  • Knowledge of book builds with generated TOC and Index (preferred)
  • Print to pdf from book (preferred)
