Job Description

Major technology company is seeking a technical writer with 5 plus years of experience. All applicants must be proficient in a variety of technical communication tools (e.g., Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Acrobat Professional, RoboHelp, WebWorks) and techniques (e.g., SME interviews; outlining; editing to a style standard; expert-level knowledge of grammar, punctuation, and spelling; writing in the abstract; writing drafts and revisions), demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.

• Software user and administrator guides.

• Requirements documents.

• Test use cases and test results.

• Analyze the business partners' technical communication needs.

• Communicate and present information professionally and effectively.

• Share knowledge and contribute to the development of technical communication products and services.

• Be proficient in a variety of technical communication tools (e.g., Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Acrobat Professional, RoboHelp, WebWorks) and techniques (e.g., SME interviews; outlining; editing to a style standard; expert-level knowledge of grammar, punctuation, and spelling; writing in the abstract; writing drafts and revisions), demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.

• Be equally comfortable working in solitude as well as in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.

• Writes, edits, and proofreads technical content.

• Gathers input and reconciles conflicting comments.

• Verifies consistency and clarity of communication.

• Documents used in aircraft testing, certification, and delivery.

• Documents used to support inquiries from the Federal Aviation Administration.

• Documents used to support inquiries from the Federal Communications Commission.

• Online help for internal software applications.

Basic Qualifications:

• Five or more years’ experience creating technical content, including processes, procedures, online help, software user manuals, certification documentation, and test documentation.

• Ability to write content in clear, concise English with attention to detail, including grammar, punctuation, spelling, consistency, and single voice of authorship.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and Adobe technical communication products.

• Ability to distinguish between subjective and objective writing, and to produce technical documentation accordingly.

• Ability to meet project block points and deadlines.

• Experience writing to standards and style guides.

• Technical writing degree or certificate from an accredited university or training provider.

• Experience creating technical content for aerospace, telecommunications, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, software, or similar industry.

• Familiarity with content-for-reuse methodologies and applications, such as DITA applications that create XML-based content.

• Experience working with business partners virtually, including distributed and global team members.

• Experience working with subject matter experts and other resources who have in-depth domain knowledge, with a demonstrated ability to extract and transform that knowledge into objective prose communicated in quantitative terms, with fidelity to the conceptual meaning of the originator.
