Thrift Store Supervisor

Summary 

The Oxnard Super Thrift Store Supervisor is responsible for all aspects of local Thrift Operations, including daily operation and budget, employee and vocational training opportunities, development and supervision, safety compliance, production, retail merchandising, and customer service. This is a full-time, exempt position located in Oxnard and reports to the Director of Thrift Operations. Compensation is commensurate with skills and experience. This position is eligible for benefits according to applicable guidelines. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

• Direct supervision of the thrift store operation, assuring that procedures are in place to maximize efficient productivity and quality control. 

• Ensure budget alignment. Includes managing revenue / expenses, studying trends and data to make sound management decisions. 

• Set goals for each area of operation within the store. 

• Ensure Production goals are accomplished on a daily basis, including employee scheduling and adjusting according to inventory peaks and valleys. 

• Exercise proper cash management procedures that assure all income is properly received, counted and deposited and employees are above reproach. 

• Implement policies and procedures for safety and loss prevention.  

• Ensure all employees, volunteers and clients follow RMA’s IIPP in working accident free by attending monthly safety matrix and tailgate meetings, reporting near misses, offering safety suggestions, etc. 

• Maintain a clean and organized environment. 

• Maintain excellent customer service in all areas of the store. 

• Oversee the proper maintenance and operation of Thrift Store equipment and facilities. 

• Lead regular thrift store employee meetings to share new policies/procedures, goals set/met, safety information, and any other information deemed necessary for the effective and efficient operation of the store. 

• Oversee employees. Recruit, supervise, time keeping and train Thrift Store staff; provide guidance to staff, and correct performance deficiencies. 

• Investigate the value of exceptional donations by means of the internet, local experts or other resources available to assist in determining an accurate price. 
  

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (cont’d) 

• Recruit and manage volunteer staff, including community service volunteers. 

• Supervise, mentor, and train volunteer program clients in specific areas of the Thrift Store operations (vocational training). Prepare and submit client evaluation reports to the program manager regularly.  

• Oversee maintenance and construction projects performed by outside vendors/contractors. 

• Assist Director of Thrift Operations in creating annual budget and identifying critical projects.  

• Assist Director of Thrift Operations in special projects and expansion. 

Other Duties & Responsibilities 

• Attend and participate in professional group meetings (ACTS) and stay current on trends and best practices for Thrift Store Operations. 

• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. 

• Promote/Train RMA Mission/Vision/Values, Safety and Lead Like Jesus principles 

Supervisory Responsibilities  

• Supervise Floor Associates, Cashiers, Janitors, Volunteers, etc.  

• Recruiting and selecting staff.  

• Development and training of staff. 

• Conduct performance evaluations for direct reports, providing feedback on strengths and development needs.  

• Maintain a high?level of integrity, camaraderie, and professional relationships with staff. 

Qualifications 

• A solid Bible based Evangelical Christian faith, compatible with RMA’s statement of faith.  

  • 5 years increasing experience in Thrift Store Operations. 
  • Bachelor’s degree or Equivalent 
  • Office administration experience 
  • Retail experience. 
  • Supervision and training experience 
  • Valid Driver’s License and insurable under RMA. 
  • Proficient in PC usage and specifically with Microsoft Office software. 
      

Skills 

The ability to perform the following tasks or exhibit the following characteristics is required: 

• Research regulations, procedures, or technical reference materials relating to best practices for Thrift Store Operations. 

• Collect and analyze data to identify needs and evaluate Thrift Store or project effectiveness.  

• Identify and analyze administrative problems and implement operational changes consistent with organizational objectives.  

• Make sound decisions and form independent judgments.  

• Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 

• Conduct business in an honest and fair manner with integrity. 

• Supervise and delegate responsibility and authority to others commensurate with their experience and skill level and consistent with company policy.  

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, managers and supervisors, contractors and staff. 

Software  

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and data entry. 
  • ADP/Payroll  

Physical Demands  

• Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties including an ability to lift up to 30 lbs. 

Equipment 

• Basic office equipment, such as computers, copiers, and printers.  

• Cars, vans, and light trucks. 

Work Environment 

This position will function in a Thrift Store environment. As a part of normal duties this position will be in facilities with an at-risk population where errant behavior and disease risk may be present. Appropriate safety considerations will be required to avoid illness or injury.
