Volt is Hiring for a Tooling Technician - Tool and Die Maker for a Direct Placement Opportunity in Otay Mesa/San Ysidro!!!
 


Position Summary:
The Tool and Die Maker is responsible for disassembling, troubleshooting and repair dies and injection molds. Works from blueprints and sketches to create or modify prototypes, tools, dies, jigs, fixtures and molds. Calculates the dimensions and tolerance required to set up the machine tools. Operates lathes, grinders, milling, and boring machines to produce tools.

Qualification Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent in related field required or 3 to 6 years related experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience, in tooling and mold making with emphasis on tool repair.
  • Training in advanced shop mathematics, Use of precision measuring instruments
  • Training in a recognized trade or craft equivalent to complete, accredited, apprentice status.

Specific/Responsibilities Duties:

  • Read operating/maintenance instructions, interpret/communicate advanced blueprints to create specialized tools and molds.
  • Constructing, reworking, maintaining and repairing molds
  • Use a variety of machinist’s hand tools and precision measuring instruments (caliper, micrometer, depth micrometers, gauges, grinder and others common tool room tools)
  • Set up and operate Tool Room machinery including CNC mills, lathes, Bridgeport and grinders
  • Assemble, disassemble, repair, inspect clean and polish molds
  • Perform precision work to exacting tolerances and dimensions
  • Solve problems relating to unusual material, work-holding arrangements, machine settings, fabrication methods and production processes Support Mold Improvement Program using Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA) problem solving concepts to maintain tooling and manage tool repair to ensure first–time quality
  • Assume a gatekeeper role in assuring the repair and maintenance of tooling is coordinated to align with production schedules to reduce downtime and improve OCE
  • Create and track metrics related to tool evaluation, availability, status, condition and maintenance history
  • Participate in Kaizen events and A3 projects
