We are seeking a candidate that is proficient with Windows OS, embedded systems, penetration testing, complying with federal government cyber security standards, military vehicle systems and identifying security vulnerabilities with those systems.  The selected candidate will work with our client, a global aerospace and defense company, for 12 months in Sterling Heights, MI from 8am to 5pm.  The Platform Cyber Security Engineer will be required to travel approximately 10% of the time and be responsible for:

  • Demonstrating critical thinking and creative analysis techniques in distilling test results, eliminating false positives and providing actionable recommendations for mitigation
  • Interpreting US Government Cyber Security Standards and best practices, and apply towards military vehicle platforms.
  • Working with US Government Cyber Security personnel including civilian and military, to identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities.
  • Making recommendations concerning the overall improvement of military vehicle security posture through the proactive discovery of security weaknesses using penetration-testing techniques
  • Performing:
    • security research on military vehicle electronics to identify security vulnerabilities
    • security scans against military vehicle electronics
    • testing using defined methodologies and a combination of automated and manual tools
  • Providing guidance on security controls and scan results to military vehicle Engineers, and assist in troubleshooting problem areas as needed.
  • Supporting the development of current and next generation cyber hardened military vehicle architectures.

Required KSAOs

  • Applicants selected must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret or Top-Secret clearance and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information. 
  • A Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 10 years applicable experience. Fewer years will be considered with an advanced degree.
  • Familiarity with embedded systems, carrying out penetration testing, automotive or military electronics (or equivalent).
  • Must be able to adapt immediately to changing business rules, program direction, and workflows
  • Must have ability to balance multiple tasks and assignments
  • Must be proficient in the Windows operating system
  • Must be able to work effectively in teams
  • Occasional travel

Preferred KSAOs

  • Competency with security testing tools and procedures for information security
  • Experience carrying out security testing
  • Experience conducting reverse engineering to find security vulnerabilities in embedded devices and their associated firmware.
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of technologies used to secure embedded systems
  • Experience with social networks / social engineering vulnerabilities
  • Extensive technical computer/network/vehicle knowledge and understanding of computer/military vehicle hardware, software, networks, communications, and connectivity.
  • Familiarity with web based penetration testing
  • Prior embedded system development and security research experience
  • Prior vehicle architecture development experience
  • Technical proficiency in CAN, Python, HTML/XML, Java, JavaScript, C/C++, Linux, Ada, Assembly Code, VM Ware, and ethical hacking tools.

This is an estimated 12-month temporary position in Sterling Heights, MI that is offered through Volt Workforce Solutions.  Relocation assistance is NOT available for this position.  Position is subject to U.S. Government Contractor hiring eligibility requirements.  No third-party vendors.  Pay is commensurate with experience.
